Gas prices increase slightly over past week

Instability in the Middle East is to blame for a slight increase in gas prices over the past week. AAA of Michigan is reporting the statewide average price of a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.60 a gallon, up seven cents from a week ago and eight cents from this time last month. Wholesale gas prices and crude prices saw temporary, reactive spikes as a result of last week’s air strikes. Tensions have since eased, with the U.S. announcing new economic sanctions on Iran instead of additional military strikes, helping to calm the market. Across the local area, pumps in Lapeer and Sanilac Counties are around $2.60 on average, while fuel is slightly lower in Macomb County at about $2.57 a gallon, and St. Clair County pumps are on average $2.62 a gallon for regular unleaded.
