A winter storm watch is in effect from tonight through Sunday morning for much of the lower peninsula of Michigan. Heavy rain will transition to an icy mix and then to snow this weekend. Significant accumulations of ice are expected in areas of Lapeer and Sanilac Counties, as well as points to the north and west. “The Flint area… up through Sandusky and Bad Axe… is the best shot for the heaviest icing,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Kevin Kacan. “Our best forecast keeps kind of keeps most of the warm air just barely up to the Port Huron area, keeping almost all that perception as a form of liquid rain.”  St. Clair and Macomb County are not under the winter storm watch, as they are expected to see mostly rain – with totals in excess of three inches.
