Officials are announcing the identity of the victim killed in a weekend fire in Port Huron. Fire Chief Corey Nicholson tells WPHM 64 year old Brian Barnes died in a fire that broke out in the early morning hours Saturday. Crews responded to reports of fire and smoke at a 4 unit apartment home at 918 Erie Street. Barnes was the occupant of one of the apartments and reportedly refused to leave the building. He was rescued by fire crews and taken to an area hospital where he was pounced dead. Nicholson says damage to the building was confined to two of the four apartments and that it is likely they will be repaired. He adds that both the cause of the fire and the cause of Barnes’ death remains under investigation.
