One killed in Port Huron house fire

A 64 year old man has died following a fire at a 4-unit Port Huron apartment house in the early morning hours Saturday. According to the Port Huron Fire Department, crews were called to  918 Erie Street around 1:42am Saturday. Many of the building’s occupants were found on or near the front porch of the building when firefighters arrived. It was indicated that the occupant of one of the units may still have been inside the building, refusing to leave. Port Huron Police also responded to the call, where they attempted to evacuate the man from the building. Firefighters entered the building and located the man, who was taken to an area hospital by Tri-Hospital EMS. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Crews extinguished the fire, which was mainly located in the downstairs apartment. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
