If you plan on ringing in the new year with a few adult beverages, you may want to take advantage of Blue Water Area Transit’s “Safe Ride” program. Starting this New Year’s Eve and running through 4am New Year’s Day, celebrators will be able to use the agency’s dial a ride service free of charge. Lee-Perry Belleau of Blue Water Area Transit says all it takes is a phone call to their dispatch center at 987-7373. “Call our dispatch center, they will come and pick you up and take you home,” said Belleau. “It actually goes until 4am but we ask people to please call by 3am so we can get you home.” Safe Ride is available to residents in the City of Port Huron as well as Burtchville, Fort Gratiot, and Port Huron Townships. Belleau adds all regular bus routes will also be free tonight starting at 6pm and the dial a ride service begins at 8pm.
