Governor Gretchen Whitmer has requested a legal opinion from Attorney General Dana Nessel regarding the legality of the Environmental Rules Review Committee and the Environmental Permit Review Commission. The governor says from high lead levels to PFAS contamination, the people of Michigan have faced increasing threats to our drinking water, air, the Great Lakes, and our overall public health. Whitmer says she looks forward to hearing from the AG to ensure clean, safe drinking water. Michigan’s Republican-led House of Representatives voted yesterday 58-51  to reject Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s recent executive order. It would restructure and reorganize the Department of Environmental Quality, abolishing thee panels which have a role in rule-making and permitting.
