Several dozen students at an area high school are being sent home to help prevent the spread of a contagious disease. The St. Clair County Health Department says 37 students at Marysville High School won’t be allowed to attend class or extracurricular activities because they are unvaccinated. Health officials say the Michigan Public Health Code allows schools to bar unvaccinated students from attending classes for a period of time to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The health department says they will be able to return three weeks after the last identified case of chickenpox is reported. Chickenpox is a vaccine-preventable disease and results in itchy blisters, fever, headache, and disease. Those who wish to vaccinate their children for the disease are encouraged to contact the St. Clair County Health Department at 987-5300.
