The Croswell-Lexington Community School District is looking to improve district buildings through a sinking fund bond proposal that will be placed on the May ballot. According to Superintendent Dan Gilbertson, the 10-year sinking fund proposal will result in property owners in the Cros-Lex district paying 0.9 mills to fund repairs to the districts’ facilities. Gilbertson, speaking to WPHM yesterday, says although it appears to be a tax increase, it’s actually the same rate district residents paid last year. “The bottom line is that homeowners will see no change in the tax rate they are now paying if the 0.9 mill sinking fund levy is approved,” said Dan Gilbertson. Sinking funds are earmarked only for building improvements and cannot be used to pay salaries. The 10 year bond would raise 4.9 million dollars if approved.
