Officials with Port Huron Schools are recognizing three of the district’s staff members as part of the 10th annual Advocator, Innovator, and Educator of the Year awards.
This year’s winners are:
- Marlo Belfuri, a teacher consultant based at the Early Childhood Center as Advocator of the Year
- Kimberly Stevenson, an art and music teacher at Roosevelt and Garfield elementaries, as Innovator of the Year
- Ann Marie Kingsbury, a fifth-grade teacher at Indian Woods, as Educator of the Year
Superintendent Theo Kerhoulas made surprise visits to each recipient’s classroom on May 2nd, delivering the news in person along with gift packages donated by local sponsors. Kerhoulas called it was one of his favorite days of the school year, and said it was an especially meaningful way to kick off Teacher Appreciation Week. More than 200 nominations were submitted by fellow staff, students, and community members. Video highlights from the award presentations are available on the Port Huron Area School’s Facebook page.
