
The Port Huron Northern girl’s basketball team was stunned on Wednesday in their district playoff opener at Anchor Bay, losing 58-53 to Macomb Dakota. It was the third meeting of the season between the MAC-Red rivals, with the Huskies winning the first two meetings. Dakota led by as many as 16 points early in the 4th, but Northern got to within four points with under three minutes to go, but no closer. The Cougars got 19 points from Tara Bleniewicz, while the Huskies leading scorers where Jenna Koppinger with 14, Sami Klink with 13, and Kathleen O’Connor with 8. Dakota will face Romeo in the district final on Friday. In other action, at Armada, Marine City beat St. Clair 41-30, while Marysville defeated Richmond 55-35. The Mariners and Vikings play in the district final on Friday night, in what will be their third meeting of the season. Each team won its home game against the other.
