A prior version of this story stated that ice breaking would commence Saturday, it has been updated to reflect Sunday as the start date.
The City of Port Huron will be contracting with ice breakers this weekend to free the ice on the Black River. According to the city, ice breaking will commence at 7am Sunday morning between the mouth of the Black River and the I-94 overpass. Motorists should expect intermittent bridge openings on the Military, 7th, and 10th street bridges through much of the day. Officials say current ice conditions on the Black River are highly variable and dangerous. Residents should avoid any recreational activities on the Black River at this time.
