The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday night in the area of 28th and Oak streets in Port Huron Township.
Staff at 24th Street Pizza say a homeless man, who is known to employees as a regular customer, entered the restaurant around midnight leaving a trail of blood as he attempted to purchase a beverage. Workers called 911 saying the man appeared confused and weak from blood loss. Employees waited with the victim until authorities arrived. The store manager even applied a makeshift tourniquet to help slow his bleeding.
Deputies arrived on the scene and followed the blood trail back to the man’s temporary dwelling. They remained in the area for several hours for investigation. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Macomb-area facility where he was last known to be undergoing surgery.
There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Silver with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office at 810-987-1727.
