MiMutual Mortgage Changing Hands

After decades in the local mortgage business, Michigan Mutual, better known as MiMutual Mortgage, has reached an agreement to be acquired by Supreme Lending, a Dallas-based company with a national footprint. MiMutual has been headquartered in downtown Port Huron since 1992, eventually moving into the former Times Herald building on Military Street in 2017. The company currently sponsors dozens of loan officers across the country and operates 18 branches nationwide.

Co-founder Hale Walker tells the Blue Water News Network, the company will soon operate under a new name, “MiMutual Mortgage powered by Supreme Lending”, and will relocate its offices, although the new location has not yet been announced. Walker also emphasized the company’s efforts to preserve local jobs during the transition. “This opportunity really presented us with the ability to retain as much employment as possible,” he said. “We will have some people who lose their jobs, but very few, really just eight to ten people in this area.” Walker added that the company’s longstanding commitment to the Port Huron community will remain unchanged. “Our passion for the YMCA, the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, our commitment to the South Side, those things are going to continue full steam ahead.”
