Marysville officials have announced that this year’s Summerfest has been canceled, citing public safety concerns following issues at last year’s event. The festival, which typically draws large crowds with carnival rides, live music, and family activities, was shut down early on at least one night in 2024 after fights broke out involving groups of teenagers and other festivalgoers. Mayor Kathy Hayman told the Blue Water News Network that the situation got out of hand last year, and police struggled to manage the crowd safely. She said the decision to cancel the event was difficult, but it had the full support of city council and law enforcement. “It’s sad to see it go,” Hayman said, “but hopefully we’ll be able to replace it with something that offers a safer environment.” According to the official Summerfest website, event organizers are working on a possible replacement festival this fall.
