Local children will now have a year-round indoor area to play, learn, and create with the opening of the Discovery City Children’s Museum in Downtown Port Huron. Just in time for cooler weather, Discovery City had a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon, officially opening it’s doors to children across the Thumb region. Museum Director Dawn Schweihofer says it’s made possible through a partnership with the City of Port Huron and the Community Foundation of St. Clair County. Schweihofer, sharing with WPHM all that the museum has to offer.
“We have 8,000 square feet of hands-on, minds-on interactive exhibits,” said Schweihofer. “We have an entire city scape where kids can be a postal worker or a grocery clerk… we have a full theater with a green screen… and to top it all off we have an enormous treehouse.”
She adds that the goal of Discovery City is to become an independent entity. The museum is located inside the Knowlton Family museum in Downtown Port Huron and is open Tuesday-Thursday noon-6pm, Fridays and Saturdays 10am-4pm, and Sundays noon-4pm. Cost of admission is $7 per person with discounted admission for those receiving WIC and EBT benefits, or have a Michigan Activity Pass through the library.
