Michigan State Police are reporting a fatal drowning that occurred over the weekend in St. Clair County’s Grant Township. State Troopers with the Lapeer Post responded around 6 o’clock Saturday night to Hewitt Pit Pond in the Port Huron State Game Area, when a 19-year-old Imlay City man began struggling and dropped below water while swimming with two friends. The St. Clair County Dive Team quickly responded and located the man but he did not survive the ordeal.
State Police were also assisted on the scene by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resources, Grant and Kenockee Township Fire Departments, and Tri-Hospital EMS.
