Voters say no to parks and SC4 millages

Voters in St. Clair County approved  three of the five county-wide millage askings that appeared on the primary ballot.

With the widest margin, the St. Clair County Department Of Veterans Affairs received their requested 0.1 mill renewal for the following 6 years with over 70% of voters saying ye. Approved with about 58% in favor was a 0.2 mill road improvement millage for the St. Clair County Road Commission. The St. Clair County Drug Task Force also receiving voter support for a four year, 0.6 mill renewal, with about 56% saying yes.

Failing to gain support were millage increases for the St. Clair County Parks Department and St. Clair County Community College. The parks and recreation additional millage failed with 54% of the county-wide vote saying no to the nearly half-mill new tax. SC4’s Headlee Amendment override proposal, which would increase the college’s current tax by 0.1 mill, failed with nearly 66% of voters disapproving of the request.
