A bi-partisan group consisting of 32 members from Michigan’s House and Senate, including local Senator Dan Lauwers, have written a letter to trustees of Michigan State University urging them to consider adding a voice from the agricultural community in their search for a new president. MSU’s board recently announced the 29 members of a committee who will oversee the selection of a new president. but have neglected to include members of the agricultural sector. The 32 lawmakers see the lack of representation as an oversight that needs to be corrected. Food and agriculture accounts for about 17 percent of the state’s total employment, making it one of the top three industries in Michigan. A draft of the letter has been introduced to the State Senate as resolution 51 Michigan state university has yet to respond to concerns.
