Garbage truck crash snarls traffic on I-94

Icy roads are believed responsible for a garbage truck losing control and crashing through a guardrail on I-94 at Lapeer Road. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred shortly before 2pm Monday. A garbage truck operated by Emterra Environmental was traveling eastbound on I-94 when it crashed through the median guardrail and ended up getting stuck on the Lapeer Road overpass, with a portion of the truck hanging over the bridge. Port Huron Township fire crews and the Michigan State Police assisted sheriff’s deputies at the scene of the crash. A portion of the highway was closed for several hours for cleanup and investigations. The 37 year old garbage truck driver from Port Huron and his 49 year old passenger from Ira Township were not injured.
