Storms leave thousands in the dark

Several thousand in the Blue Water area are still without power following this week’s severe storms. Most of the outages are located in the Emmett, Kenockee, and Riley Township area where there are nearly 2000 customers of the grid. According to DTE Energy’s outage map, areas of the west-central part of the county may have to wait until late Sunday night or early Monday morning before power is totally restored. There are 525,000 people in the dark across the DTE Energy service territory, and there are nearly 300 crews in the field, including linemen from out of state. The worst hit portions of the state include the Livingston and Northern Oakland County areas.

More than half a million homes and businesses in Michigan don’t have power today after storms that began Tuesday night. As of Thursday morning, DTE Energy has more than 500,000 customers without power across their service territory. Locally, there are nearly 1200 customers in the dark in the Marysville area and another 1500 people without power this morning in Kimball Township. The outage has caused Woodlands Developmental Center on the St. Clair County RESA Campus to be closed Thursday. There are also over 1000 people are offline in the Emmett area, and another 1500 or so DTE customers with no electricity in the Port Sanilac area. As of this Thursday morning there is no estimated restoration time.
