Two killed after car plunges into St. Clair River

Two people are dead after driving in to the St. Clair River Sunday night in Marine City. According to the Marine City Police Department, a vehicle that was traveling at an excessive speed eastbound on Broadway crashed through the steel guardrails and into the St. Clair River shortly after 11pm Sunday. Nearby boaters attempted to help the victims out of the submerging vehicle but were unsuccessful. It took members of the St. Clair County Dive Team approximately an hour to locate the submerged vehicle. The bodies of a 83 year old man and 86 year old woman were found inside. The Marine City Police department described the incident as a “tragic accident” however the cause of the crash remains unknown.
