With the Labor Day travel week now in the rear view mirror, gas prices are on the decline. The price of fuel in Michigan fell about a nickle over the past week. Pumps are down six cents to a statewide average of $2.04 a gallon. That’s 12 cents less than this time last month and 55 cents less than this time last year. The most expensive fuel in the state remains in the central and western upper peninsula where pumps are asking as high as $2.26. The cheapest fuel can be found in western Michigan including Grand Rapids and Traverse City where gas is around a $1.90. Across the Blue Water area, pumps are right around the $2-a gallon mark for a gallon of regular unleaded.
