We are now two weeks out from Michigan’s presidential primary, and local officials are reminding voters of some of the changes in election law that are in effect for the primary. Port Huron City Clerk Cyndee Jonseck tells WPHM this will be the first major statewide election for no-reason absentee voting. That means you can obtain an absentee ballot from your local clerk’s office for no given reason. She says Friday March 6th at 5pm is the last day you can receive a ballot by mail. Jonseck says you can also vote in person at your local municipal clerk’s office anytime prior to the election on Tuesday March 10th.

Is Port Huron ready for an expected influx of absentee ballots ahead of the March 10th primary? City Clerk Cyndee Jonseck says yes. Jonseck tells WPHM her office is expecting slightly higher than normal absentee voters now that no-reason absentee voting is allowed in Michigan. “We have issued applications for over 1300 ballots… We are up by about 200 absentee ballot requests here in the city.” Because of that, she says the city has acquired a new machine to help count the additional ballots on election night. “With that additional tabulator, we’ll be able to process all the absentee ballots in a timely manner,” said Jonseck.
