Following a review by an independent consulting firm, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services recommends maintaining an 84-bed mental health facility in Caro. DHHS spokesperson Lynn Sutfin says it makes more financial sense to modify the Caro Center mental health facility than to close it. She adds that the agency will also be pursuing community-based resources so people can get treatment where they live. The department’s recommendation would continue funding levels for the current 794 beds statewide.
