The 25th St. Clair River Classic Offshore Power Boat Races is about a month away and this year’s event will have a new title sponsor. Announced Wednesday morning by the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association, The St. Clair Inn will be the title sponsor of the races beginning this year. Owner Jeff Katofsky, speaking to WPHM at a press conference yesterday, says the partnership just makes sense. “If we’re going to be a part of the community, which we intend to be, then we need to be involved,” said Katofsky. He did not disclose the dollar value of the sponsorship however Bob Currier, secretary-treasurer of the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association, says it is the the largest single sponsorship in race history. He also says this year’s St. Clair River Classic is on track to be one of the largest yet, with about 60 power boats expected from ten different countries. The St. Clair River Classic takes place the weekend of July 27th in Downtown St. Clair and coincides with St. Clair River Fest.
