Officials in Fort Gratiot Township are providing relief to government employee families who have gone a month without pay. According to Township Treasurer Robert Buechler and Supervisor Jorja Baldwin, Fort Gratiot will waive all late fees and penalties on utility bills and tax bills for all furloughed federal employees. Fort Gratiot is also granting a 45 day grace period to pay the outstanding utility bill balances beginning with the date the government reopens. Federal employees will be asked to show their Federal ID and proof of their furlough status.
