The first of many public meetings will be held tonight to help decide whether or not Port Huron’s Amtrak Station should move, and if so, where it would be located. Blue Water Area Transit has identified ten potential locations for the station earlier this year. Assistant general manager Dave McElroy says the advisory committee will be responsible for narrowing down the options. The committee will meet for the first time tonight at 6pm at the St. Clair County Administration Building. McElroy, speaking to WPHM, says all are welcome to participate. Those who cannot make tonight’s advisory committee meeting but still want to participate can also call 987-7373 or email contact@bwbus.com. Concerns about location and lack of parking at the 16th street station have prompted the search for a potential new station location. In addition to the current location on 16th Street, McElroy says other sites include those near downtown, the Black River, and the Blue Water Bridge in the City of Port Huron, and a location near the rail yard in Port Huron Township. Once a site has been determined, the agency will apply for state and federal grants to help purchase property and build a new station or renovate and expand the existing station.
