Tigers Trade Martin

With the MLB non-waiver trade deadline approaching at 4 PM on Monday, the Detroit Tigers have acquired prospect Willi Castro from the Cleveland Indians for outfielder Leonys Martin and pitching prospect Kyle Dowdy.  Castro, 21, is a switch hitting shortstop who has been in the Indians minor league system for the past five years.  He is a career .263 hitter, and was hitting.245 this year at AA Akron, with five home runs and 39 RBI.  MLB.com rates him as the 8th best prospect in the Cleveland system.  Martin, who is 30, was hitting .251 with nine home runs and 29 RBI for the Tigers this season, while Dowdy, who is 25, was (8-8) with an earned run average of (4.74) between Erie and Toledo in the Detroit farm system.  With an open roster spot after the departure of Martin, the Tigers have called up outfielder Mike Gerber from Toledo.
