Michigan School Index ratings released

schools

The Michigan Department of Education’s new School Index System rankings are being announced. The new system assigns a number between zero and 100 for schools based on student growth and proficiency, graduation rates, and assessment numbers. The School Index System replaces the A-through-F grades the state used for school performance. Locally, several area schools received ratings of 90 or higher, including Avoca, Yale, and Emmett Elementary Schools in the Yale District, Morton and Gardens Elementary Schools in Marysville, and Marine City High and Pine River and Palms Elementary Schools in the East China District. Near the bottom of the list was East Shore Leadership Academy, Port Huron’s Roosevelt Elementary, The Virtual Learning Academy, and Riverview East High School. The statewide average was 72.
