The Detroit Tigers traded outfielder Justin Upton to the Angels on Thursday afternoon in a deal that brings pitching prospect Grayson Long and a player to be named later to Detroit. Upton was the Tigers lone All-Star this season and had a team leading 28 home runs and 94 RBI. Upton had informed the Tigers that he would opt out of his seven year contract and become a free agent at the end of the season, forcing the teams hand in moving him, rather than lose him with no return.
