The New England Patriots kicked two late field goals to nip the Detroit Lions 30-28 at Ford Field on Friday night in preseason action. New England raced out to a 24-0 first quarter lead, before Detroit roared back with four straight touchdowns to take a brief 28-24 lead late in the game. Dwayne Washington had two touchdowns for the Lions, who close out exhibition play next Thursday at Buffalo.
