It looked like the Tigers had rallied back to win their fifth straight game on Wednesday night in Kansas City, when Mikie Mahtook belted a go ahead two run home in the top of the ninth. However, Justin Wilson blew the save in the bottom of the inning, serving up a game tying double and a game winning sac-fly, as the Royals beat Detroit 4-3. Justin Verlander wasted another strong start, going seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits with eight strike outs. The Tigers and Royals complete a four game series on Thursday night in Kansas City.
