The Detroit Red Wings selected center Michael Rasmussen with the ninth pick in the NHL draft. Rasmussen played last season for Tri-City in the WHL, where he scored 32 goals in 50 games. He is the highest pick the Wings have had since taking Keith Primeau ninth overall in 1990.
