Victor Martinez, Justin Upton, and Cameron Maybin all hit home runs and knocked in two runs, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 8-3 on Friday night at Comerica Park in the first game of a three game series. Michael Fulmer tossed seven innings, allowing just one run and striking out nine. The Tigers continue to hold the final playoff spot in the American League with nine games left in the season. Game two of the series is set for Saturday afternoon.
