A facelift of the exterior of McMorran Place in Downtown Port Huron is set to get some help from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The state agency has recommended $300,000 worth of grant funds for McMorran, which would be used to redo the plaza in front of the sports and entertainment complex. Initial plans call for the creation of an outdoor skating rink in the space immediately east of the building. The funds will come from the federal Land and Water Conservation fund which will need approval from the National Park Service. Announced earlier this year, the McMorran plaza rehab was also the recipient of $350,000 dollars worth of grants from the Ralph C. Wilson Junior Foundation. Renderings of the project are currently being drawn.
