It’s going down in history as the slowest Port Huron to Mackianc Yacht Race in decades, with much of the fleet reaching Mackinac island in the early morning hours Tuesday. Race Chairman Gary Shoemaker of Bayview Yacht Club says with the increased duration of the race  also comes an increased number of those who have dropped out of the race. Shoemaker speaking to WPHM on Mackinac Island says over 40 boats retired from the race. Chairman Shoemaker says many dropped out due to the lack of wind, with some not having enough rations and others not having enough vacation days to finish the event. Shoemaker says many plan vacations around the finish of the race. The 94th annual Bells Beer Bayview Mackinac Race started Saturday morning in Lower Lake Huron just north of the Blue Water Bridge.
