Last year, the state of Michigan increased its intake of solid waste, or trash, by 3.1% over 2016.  Disposal by Michigan residents and businesses increased less than 1%, while imported waste from other states and Canada increased by 11.3%.  Meanwhile, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder will be announcing a new initiative to help improve recycling efforts across the state this afternoon. The Governor will be at Clean Tech in Dundee to make the announcement. During his State of the State address last week the Governor said recycling was one of the most disappointing programs he’s had as governor. Snyder said despite passing the deposit law, Michigan is half the national average on recycling and more must be done.
