The Port Huron Police Department is continuing to investigate a fatal traffic crash, which shutdown Military Street for several hours on Friday. Around 6:45pm, police received calls of multiple accidents occurring in the 2400 block of Military Street in Port Huron, and that the suspect vehicle had fled the scene. When officers arrived, they found that a motorcycle had been struck — with the 2 passengers laying in the roadway. The passenger of the motorcycle, identified as Dawn Lenker age 49 of Sterling Heights, died as a result of her injuries. The 47 year old driver of the motorcycle was transferred to St. John’s Hospital in Detroit for treatment. After striking the motorcycle, the pickup truck involved, had continued north pushing the motorcycle into a second vehicle, then continued driving northbound on Military Street. Witnesses informed police that the suspect had caught the Military Street Bridge in the up position and was stuck in traffic. When officers found the truck and approached the vehicle, the driver, who appeared incoherent, tried to drive off, hitting the vehicle in front of him. He resisted arrest, and was transferred to the local hospital — as officers felt he was having a severe medical condition. The suspect, a 37 year old male from Port Huron, has been released pending further investigation.
