Fire crews are recovering after battling a lengthy overnight blaze in Cottrellville Township.

The fire broke out early Tuesday morning at a home in the 6600 block of Plank Road. Crews from the Marine City Area Fire Authority, along with departments from St. Clair, Algonac, Clay Township and Ira Township, worked at the scene for several hours to bring the fire under control.

Marine City Fire Chief Joe Slankster said the structure was already fully involved when firefighters arrived, with flames spreading throughout the home and portions of the ceiling collapsing early in the response.

Slankster said freezing temperatures created additional challenges, causing equipment and fire hoses to ice over during the prolonged firefight.

The home was reportedly vacant at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
