A Florida man has been arraigned on multiple charges following Wednesday’s early morning police chase on M-25 and I-94. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department has identified the suspect as Richard Tumminia, a 44 year old from Spring Hill, Florida. Authorities are still investigating the incident, but say he may have been trying to flee the state or country. Preliminary investigations also suggest he may have been involved in a possible abduction attempt in Sanilac County.
The chase began just after midnight February 1st when a “be on the lookout” warning was issued for Tumminia’s vehicle by authorities in Sanilac County. A sheriff’s deputy on patrol in Fort Gratiot Township spotted the car on M-25 and attempted to pull the suspect over when a pursuit engaged. The chase involved the suspect attempting to enter the Blue Water Bridge, travelling the wrong way on I-94, and ending as he crashed into a police car and then a snowbank in the City of Port Huron. He is lodged in the St. Clair County jail on a $100,000 bond.
