According to AAA this morning, the average price per gallon has reached $3.96 in St. Clair County. Some stations in Port Huron and Fort Gratiot even read as much as $3.99. That’s an increase of almost 25 cents from last week’s 2023 record of $3.76, and up more than 50 cents just since the beginning of August. Analysts are suggesting that concerns over inflation and growing fuel demand as we head into the colder months have sparked the sudden hike in pump prices. Around the rest of Michigan, drivers in Jackson are paying the most at the pumps right now with $3. 97  being their average. Metro Detroit gas prices are currently the lowest in the state at $3.87.
