A man was found dead inside his Fort Gratiot Township home following a standoff with police Tuesday night. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office attempted pull over 35 year old Jeffery Adams around 8pm as he had an outstanding felony arrest warrant. Authorities say he lead them on a brief pursuit Tuesday before barricading himself in his home on Lakeshore Road.

Adams is believed to have fired a single shot from the home towards deputies. No police or civilians were injured. A second gunshot was heard about a minute later, with deputies later finding Adam’s body inside the home with a self inflicted wound. Sheriff Mat King says Adam’s outstanding warrant was for fleeing and eluding stemming from an incident several weeks ago.

King says multiple authorities, including Port Huron Police, Coast Guard, Michigan State Police, and Fort Gratiot Township Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene. Neighboring residents were asked to shelter in place and a portion of Lakeshore Road was closed for several hours Tuesday.
