Saturday is the 99th running of the Bayview Mackinac Race, and Port Huron is preparing for the annual festival that precedes it.
This year’s Blue Water Fest will begin Wednesday night with the Rotary International Day Parade, stepping off at Huron and Glenwood Avenues at 6:30pm and traveling south to Military and Oak Streets. Downtown Development Authority Director Natacha Hayden says following the parade the carnival midway will open up in the South McMorran Parking Lot.
“If you’re looking for carnival food or carnival rides, come down Wednesday,” said Hayden. “In addition to our downtown shopping, we’ll have unique vendors from all over the state you can check out Thursday night and all day Friday.”
The Blue Water Street Fair runs 4 to 9pm Thursday and 11am to 9pm Friday. Operation Transformation’s Family Night near the 10th Street Bridge on Thursday will conclude with fireworks over Desmond Landing. Thursday also sees the first of two “Boats and Boots” country concerts in the West Quay Street parking lot.
“There are three different stages with live music, all free,” said Hayden. “Everything’s going to be happening between Quay Street and McMorran.”
Friday night’s headliner will be national recording artist Rodney Atkins, and the entertainment continues Saturday which the last day for the carnival midway.
The Port Huron to Mackinac Yacht Race will begin shortly after 11am in lower Lake Huron, with live coverage of the start on 1380 WPHM.
