A lifesaving treatment from COVID-19 is in scarce supply and has forced the local health department to change how it will be administered locally. The Food and Drug Administration recently announced that only one of the three current monoclonal antibody therapies are effective against the Omicron variant of the virus. As a result, the effective treatment will be limited to those who are immunocompromised, over age 75 regardless of vaccination status, between the ages of 65 and 74 with a risk factor, and pregnant women. The St. Clair County Health Department strongly encourages the public to talk to their doctor to see if they are eligible for the treatment and to get vaccinated and boosted for the best protection against COVID-19.
