Port Huron street construction, canal dredging commences

A couple of projects get underway in the city of Port Huron this week. Construction began Monday on McMorran Boulevard between Huron Avenue and Merchant Street. The project includes water main replacement, sanitary sewer installation and street reconstruction, and is expected to be completed by November. As a result, McMorran Boulevard will be closed from Huron to Merchant through mid-July. Also this week, crews will start dredging sand from the Black River Canal entrance at Lake Huron. The sand will be placed in Lake Huron from Holland Beach to the south. That could cause traffic slowdowns along Gratiot Avenue to Edison Boulevard, and Conger Street to Holland Avenue.
