Up to 80 college students will be living in Downtown Port Huron next year, that according to St. Clair County Community College, which is in the process of renovating and adding on to a former motel on Huron Avenue. SC4’s Pete Lacey says they have been looking to add housing for decades, and there has already been plenty of interest in the former motel-turned-dorm. Lacey adds a new student common area will be added on to the building in the 500 block of Huron Avenue, taking the place of the former motel’s “A-Frame” which was demolished last week. SC4 expects a summer of 2018 opening for the new dorms. Projected room and board are expected to be around $500 per month per student.
