The Port Huron Police Department is responding to a viral video shared on social media showing a man being punched by a police officer.  The video is from November of this past year in which an officer was seen throwing a punch at a man who appeared to be under the influence.  Port Huron Police Chief Joe Platzer says the officer involved has been disciplined following an internal investigation.

“Port Huron Police Officers take an oath to protect and serve the community in a professional manner,” said Platzer. “We will continue to hold ourselves to these standards and when we fall short – we will be held accountable.” He adds that the officer involved, who’s identity has not been released by police, received additional training in de-escalation techniques.
