High winds cause down power lines, house fires

outages-9-22

Approximately 10,000 DTE Energy customers are without power in St. Clair County following high winds Wednesday that felled trees and power lines across much of the area. In the city of Port Huron alone at least three house fires were reported Wednesday evening caused by down wires. It is unknown at this time if there were any injures or the extent of the damage from those fires. Many city residents mostly concentrated in the central part of Port Huron immediately north and south of the Black River are without electricity. Many traffic signals are also out. Among the hardest hit areas include Algonac and Clay Township where over 2500 customers are currently off the grid. Locally there are also widespread outages effecting at least 1500 people each in Port Huron, Fort Gratiot, and Kimball Townships. There is no expected time for restoration.
