US Census data shows continued population decline locally

The U.S. Census Bureau is out with detailed information regarding population changes over the past decade. St. Clair County lost 1.6% of its population between 2010 and 2020, bringing the county wide total to just over 160,000 people Sanilac County declined even more, down 5.8% to just shy of 41,000 people. Lapeer County saw gains of 0.3%, while Macomb County was up 4.8%. Some of the greatest population gains in Michigan were found in the Grand Rapids area and the UP continued to lead the state in population loss. Michigan also saw a decrease in the white population, while increases in people of color and those of two or more races.
