Downtown Port Huron could have its own grocery store in just a matter of months. The owners of Country Style Marketplace in Fort Gratiot Township are putting the finishing touches on their new store to be located in the 300 block of Huron Avenue inside the former Woolworth’s building. Steve Fernandez tells WPHM the store could open as soon as October of this year.

“We’ve been working on this for ten months now, we crossed the 75% mark as far as completion goes,” said Fernandez. “We anticipate that in about ten weeks we’re going to be opening the store downtown.”

Fernandez says he and his wife Michelle Jones plan to continue to operate the Fort Gratiot store even after the downtown store is in operation, citing logistical efficiencies between the two.

“We have so many loyal customers up at the Fort Gratiot store that we want to make sure they understand that the store is staying open,” added Fernandez. “The scale of economy by being able to buy for two stores will allow us to be much more competitive with pricing too.”

Fernandez says the downtown location will feature a produce and meat section similar to the north end location. Additionally, there will be a prohibition themed beer and wine cellar, and a deli that will offer to-go breakfast and lunch options. The downtown building will also host the couple’s personal loft as well as three office suites on the second floor that are available for rent.
